Parents
The Travel Code was introduced in January 2010 to help improve the safety of children and young people as they travel between home and school or college. Poor behaviour has contributed to some tragic consequences in the past and the Travel Code aims to tackle this.
All children and young people between the ages of 5-19 are covered by the Travel Code, whether they walk, take the bus or train, bike or even travel by car.
As a parent or guardian it's your responsibility to ensure your child (or children) abide by the Travel Code. There are implications if a child doesn't follow the Travel Code, such as a Local Authority may withdraw access to free transport. (Please see the Statutory Guidance for detailed information).
Ensuring your child understands and sticks to the Travel Code will not only help to save lives, but will make the pavements, buses and streets happier places to be for everyone.
You can play a really important role in helping your child to learn about the Travel Code and understand what it means for them. Please encourage your child to find out more about the Travel Code by looking at the website and taking part in the activities.
The Travel Code comes with a great interactive quiz that can be accessed through the website or Facebook.
Please encourage your children to enter and take part. It's fun, it's free and it'll help them learn and understand the Travel Code.
You can download the Travel Code here.
Make every journey a good one. Stick to the Travel Code.
